What is going on with Chris Hoel? Part 2

July 17th, 2008 · 1256 Comments

I hadn’t noticed this comment on an earlier post, but straight from Chris Hoel himself…

“Well I can tell you…. It’s been a wonderful experience moving to Napa after living in St. Louis for over 24 years. St. Louis is and will always be very close to my heart.

I applied as a dare almost for this position when I saw it posted on the Court of Master Sommeliers website. A little talent and a lot of luck I got the job. Working for the French Laundry has always been a dream of mine and when the possibility arose….I jumped at it.

I started May 6th and trained fort over a month before starting as a sommelier there. Now I’m over seeing a new wine cellar construction at the restaurant as well as overseeing private dinning and off site wine events. The hours are long but working side by side with Chef Keller is the chance of a life time.

The St. Louis Wine Clinic has been taken over by partner Stanley Browne, owner of Robust Wine Bar in Webster, MO. Stanley plans to continue to educate St. Louis’ wine thirsty.

I have put any and all consulting and restaurant projects on hold for now and enjoy focusing on driving one of the best wine programs in America and consulting to write for St. Louis Magazine.

I have close family and friend ties to St. louis and will continue to travel back and forth to visit……even if it’s to enjoy the brilliant cuisine of Gerard Craft who gave me one of the best meals of my life just before I left town.

I miss my friends and family and my baseball!. GO CARDS!”
